Summer Adventures… Take Two

Hello again! Every summer my family and I travel to the National Jr. Angus Show. This show moves every year to a different location, and this summer it was in Denver, Co. Kansas was a host state (along with Nebraska and obviously Colorado) so in addition to competing in all the educational contests and showing cattle, we were all busy with our various committees. I was the junior chair for the educational contests. One of my best friends was in charge of all of the prizes and exhibitor gifts. The exhibitor gift this year was a hoodie (wasnt really needed in July, though! LOL) I helped pass them out, along with several other people.

Me and Chelsea Dickinson passing out the hoodies.

The National Jr. Angus Association has a conference every summer for members. It is called Leaders Engaged in Angus Development, or LEAD for short. Just like Nationals, this conference moves around every year so we are able to learn and experience agriculture in different areas of the country. This summer, it was held in none other than Music City! Im not sure if Nashville was fully prepared for 200+ Angus enthusiasts like that!

We toured the Country Music Hall of Fame:

Claire Volk, me, Kenzie Flory and Claire Taylor at the Hall of Fame.

Toured the Ryman Auditorium: (which was considered to be the Opery before the Opery was built)

Meghan and Trent Blythe and I showing off our 'musical talents' at the Ryman Auditorium.

One of the biggest types of agriculture Tennessee has is tobacco farming. I have never been to a tobacco farm, so it was really cool to take a hay rack ride tour through the fields! (although it was reeeeally hot!)

The owner of the tobacco farm is demonstrating how the spear goes through the stalk to be hung, smoked and dried in the barn.

And there is always a dance at the end of the conference. This year it was held at the water park/ lake. Made the perfect back drop for taking pictures!

Esther McCabe, me, Tucker Rayl, Allie and Meghan Blythe.

This conference is always a blast! We learn a lot about different types of agriculture, make new friends and reconnect with old ones. Looking forward to finding out where its going to be next summer!

  1. Hannah, it was great to see you this summer. So glad that you choose Butler. You’ll be a great alumnus one day. See you at the next Angus event.
